Wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving. ~ Kahil Gibran

Earth-Centered Naikan.

Earth-Centered Naikan is the Japanese art of self-reflection. The word Naikan means, “looking inside”, and is essentially a gratitude practice similar to yoga, meditation, or prayer. Ishin Yoshimoto developed Naikan in Japan in the 1940’s. Described as a simple practice of attention and self-reflection, Naikan is comprised of three basic components:

  • Protected sacred time exclusively set aside for self-reflection;
  • Isolated sacred space free of external distractions; and
  • Self-reflection on the three sacred Naikan questions related to one's relationship with humans, animals, objects, or the Earth.
